“Wasteland” by Graham Travis is an unusual choice for me – but still ranges as one of the most arousing porn films I’ve ever seen.
Unusual, because not only does it have a plot (a feature I find somewhat superfluous in porn), it actually tells a serious story. Two girls who used to be friends, but drifted apart, are reunited in Los Angeles and get involved in various sexual adventures.
It works mainly because the plot and the portrayal of the two main characters add to the erotic tension: Jacky is a somewhat spoiled, sexually promiscuous blonde. Her brunette friend Anna is troubled and hesitant to join in the sexual fun. The two female leads are not only seriously sexy, but are even able to act. Lily Carter’s portrayal of Anna deserves special credit.
But of course, without scorching sex scenes, what would be the point? And “Wasteland” has plenty of those. Note that the ordinary versions have shortened cuts of all sex scenes to keep the narrative going, letting you watch it as a proper movie. The full-length scenes are reserved for a second dvd (which even contains a lesbian scene entirely cut from the ordinary movie version).
Even more unusually, the sexual dynamic builds throughout the movie. The first sex scenes are somewhat brief, but get gradually longer and more intense, ending in the final orgy scene (Jacky and Anna ravaged by a large group of men) – a scene which itself has its own dynamic: Gradually building up to be one of the hottest porn scenes I’ve ever watched.
“Wasteland” doesn’t change my mind about plot-driven porn. It is in most cases a bad idea. But Graham Travis absolutely pulls it off here, with the plot and the distinct female characters adding extra spice to the dark eroticism of the film.
Definitely recommended viewing – perhaps especially if you find mainstream porn clichéd and predictable.
