I watch a lot of pornography – both to find inspiration for my stories and for personal enjoyment. And well, also because I find sex to be just so damn interesting.

However, I’m quite selective – and (like most people) I rarely bother to watch any porn movie more than once. And when it happens, it begs the question: Why? What makes porn durable?

Take one of my recent favourites: Private’s “Party Babes” from 2008. Why do I find this movie more exciting and enjoyable than 99% of all the porn I’ve ever watched?

I’m no fan of “gonzo” style porn – I love high production values and good camerawork. Woman are beautiful – and destroying that beauty with bad lighting and camera angles is just a shame.

And of course, the stars in the film – both male and female – should look good as well. “Party Babes” includes the lovely Tarra White who looks as gorgeous as ever.
In summing up, porn should not look the way sex looks – it should look the way it feels, making the viewer feel it too. The more the images can do to enhance the wetness of a pussy, the taut skin of a cock, the softness of a breast, the more the viewer will not only see, but actually feel the action (there are closeup in this film so delicious you can almost taste them…).

“The plot?” I hear you cry – “what good is plot in a porn flick?” And I tend to agree. With few notable exceptions, I prefer “all-sex” porn – that does away with plot altogether and focuses on the sexual acts themselves.

However, I find I enjoy an element of “setting the scene”. An endless series of couples fucking in someone’s bedroom for no particular reason soon gets old.

In “Party Babes”, two girls and a lucky man play with champagne and dildos in the back seat of a limo. Another scene takes place on the floor of a discoteque – with other guests watching from the next room. Nice little twists that make the scenes just a bit more kinky.

Porn music is often ridiculed (and rightly so). But my pet peeve is music that drown out the sounds of sex themselves. Because listening to a womans moans and screams of pleasure really turns me on. On the other hand, a good throbbing beat can add to that intagible feel of the sex.

Described as “music video style”, “Party Babes” does feature a lot of corny, but well-produced music – and uses a very nice technique: Ever so often, the music stops, not just allowing you to hear, but actually emphasizing the sounds of sex. (Even as a non-hiphop fan, I can live with the hiphop track added to one of my favourite sex scenes ever)

Of course, we all know that porn stars have sex for a living. But the best of them can convince you that they’re actually out of their minds with lust. And in just about every single scene in “Party Babes” there seems to be an amazing sexual chemistry between the performers – not least between Tarra White and Mike Angelo in a delicious fetish-themed scene.

I would even recommend this as a “couples” style movie. It’s certainly as sex-positive as it gets – in the universe of “Party Babes”, sex is simply the universal language of pleasure.
