I’ve been thinking…
Porn is often accused of always using the same blatant stereotypes. And it’s often suggested that especially female stars are subject to those stereotypes.
Sure enough: There seems to be an almost endless supply of blonde bombshells with hourglass figures, long legs and huge breasts.
But still the industry seems to have realized that all males (or females for that matter) don’t have the same preferences when it comes to women. And thus with a little effort, it’s possible to find teens and MILFs, goth chicks, big breasts, small breasts, petite women and BBWs.
But why – I wonder – does the same variation not extend to the male talent? They all seem to be more or less of the same athletic build: In between the few extremes – body-builder types like Lee Stone and boys next door like James Deen (and face it: even those two aren’t all that extreme) – they could all have rolled off the same assembly line.
One reason why could be: “Oh, male on female porn flicks are for straight guys only – they just look at the girls. They don’t care what the guys looks like.”
Of course, that would explain why the variety in males is clearly much bigger in gay porn. It would be nearly impossible to imagine a bear or a twink type having sex with a woman in straight porn.
But then again, it’s an established fact that women watch straight porn, too – and I assume they’d want to look at the men. And even male watchers seem to have fetishes like big cocks and black men? (In fact, skin colour seems to be the only major variations the industry caters for when it comes to males)
The pyknic
By now you’re probably wondering why I even think about this kind of thing? Well, you see, I write porn stories. And to spark the fantasies of my readers, I use a number of tricks to keep my stories alive. One of them being the physical variety of the male characters – short and tall and skinny, athletic, hairy and bald.
But one character I keep returning to is what in classic typologi was called the pyknic: The burly, stocky type – in my stories often coming across as rough and aggressive.
Surely, I can’t be the only one with those kinds of fantasies.
Contrast has always played a big role in sexual excitement: Black vs. white, strength vs. weakness, girth vs. tightness. And in a society where women are traditionally seen as the beautiful sex, a replay of the old “beauty and the beast” myth is bound to arouse.
But where is the burly, stocky, brutal male porn star to ravish the beauty? I think we need him…
