The 1990s arguably was a golden age for pornography. It’s difficult to write a history of porn without names like Paul Thomas, Michael Ninn, John Stagliano and more.
But I have a special love for the perhaps slightly underrated Nic Cramer.
Swedish-born Cramer did a lot of work for Sweden’s Private studio – and recieved much praise for the stylish “Looker” (1998), a take on the classic noir detective story, featuring venetian blinds and femme fatales galore.
His “Clockwork Orgy” (1995) is a gender-switched take on Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” – featuring female droogs ravaging their male co-stars.
And in “Pentrator 2 – Grudge Day” (1995), you get to enjoy the tittilating spectacle of unfeeling replicants mercilessly penetrating the hapless female cast.
I’m no fan of the “porn parody” genre in general, but Nic Cramer add his particular touch: Occasionally surreal settings where the lighting and cinematography brings out the beauty of the women and the sexual acts. And unlike some soft “couples-friendly” porn, the sex is not just passionate, but often downright brutal – lustful cries abound.
Nic Cramer seems to have made his most recent film in 2014, but it is his 90s and early 00s classics I will keep returning to.
